how to add bitcoin-qt icon to gnome dash

I've installed bitcoin core on a machine running Pop!OS (an ubuntu derivative) using the directions on the bitcoin.org website, which includes verifying the file and then running the following commands:

tar xzf bitcoin-0.20.1-x86_64-linux-gnu.tar.gz

sudo install -m 0755 -o root -g root -t /usr/local/bin bitcoin-0.20.1/bin/*

The installation was successful, but I can only start bitcoin-qt and bitcoind from the terminal. Is the there a way to add them to the application menu and the dash? I'm new to Linux, but wondering if I may be missing a .desktop file (or possibly other files).

As a test, I also tried installing bitcoin core from the software center in lieu of the tarball download, and the software center install created the desktop icons that were missing fromthe tarball download install. Is there a way to get a similar result from the tarball installation?
